Baan 38 is a renovated house locating around Soi Ari, Bangkok. The 80 years old house is being restored under the concept of integrating modern style to the existing building by keeping some of the architectural elements including form and structure while the modern parts which including frameless glass andglass box are inserting into the existing form. The house is divided into 3 buildings, the main building, the pavilion and the service building at the back. As by renovating the existing building, the space inside is being extended and opened to create a wider and clearer space with a private courtyard and garden for the family relaxation. Importantly, the house is designed with the water barrier to prevent flood from intruding the interior when needed without obstructing the aesthetic of the design. As by recreating the space within simultaneously with the combination all of this elements and materials, sense of place and uniqueness is given to the design without depriving of the original characteristic of the house.

On this rural property, the house was positioned where a large gumtree had fallen, allowing north light to pe*****te into an otherwise dense and dark canopy. By minimising vegetation removal we maintained privacy in this bush setting.
