1. HYBRID-ONGRID:
Grid-Tied or On-Grid is a solar system that is connected to the utility power grid (such as Meralco). You use free electricity during the daytime and switches to utility/grid for backup power during cloudy skies or night time. Excess power generated from solar can be fed to the Grid via Net Metering Program. The meter spins forward as you draw electricity, and spins backward as the excess is fed into the grid. If, at the end of the month, you’ve used more electricity than your solar system has produced, you pay retail price for that extra electricity.
If blackouts or power outages are less common in your area, ON-GRID or GRID-TIED is the best and most economical choice for you. The ONLY DOWN-SIDE is that when the Grid or Utility is down, so is your grid-tied solar system. Not Cool!
With our HYBRID-ONGRID setup, though, you have the option to ADD BATTERIES LATER, if you're on a tight budget, and you don't have to spend extra for an Off-Grid Solar system, which is 2X or 3X the price of an ON-GRID setup.
2. HYBRID OFF-GRID:
To get the best of both worlds, you can opt for a hybrid solar setup. With a Hybrid Off-Grid setup, the solar battery is used as a backup in the event the grid goes down.
With our HYBRID OFF-GRID mode, you use free electricity during daytime and the excess energy from solar panels is fed to the batteries (charging) for use when solar power is low during cloudy skies or non-critical loads are utilized during night time (discharging). If batteries are full during the daytime, excess energy can be fed or exported to the grid which can further reduce your energy bill via Net Metering Program (optional).
THE BOTTOM LINE
Whether or not you choose to remain tied to the grid or rely solely on solar power depends on your budget.
Grid-tied solar is the cheapest option, but leaves you at the mercy of the utility or electric company. Also if the grid goes down, you will be without power too.
A HYBRID solution provides the best of both worlds, allowing you to both sell power to the electric company and rely on battery backup in the event that the electric grid goes down. A hybrid solution saves you the cost of a back-up generator or setting up a separate and more expensive Off-Grid solar system.
