How real is depression? Due to the heightened awareness of its existence, depression has become a common term often heard in day-to-day conversations as each person tries to cope with the challenges of our generation. However, there are still those who need more evidence to say that it is real and not just a hype.

Meet another speaker for , Dr. Anne Cristine Guevarra. Her research focuses on the neurobiology of depression. Throughout the years, several studies have been conducted to broaden the understanding of depression, from its symptomatology, neurochemical mechanisms, and involvement of various biological systems. Molecular-based approaches have been employed including that of the discovery of the first antidepressant. Even the outcomes of psychotherapy, being a non-pharmacological form of treatment, have broadened beyond clinical results to show molecular changes in the brain made visible through neuroimaging.

Learn more about her research by registering through this link: bit.ly/ForwardThinkers2019
Pre-registration is only until August 1.

Precision medicine offers a huge opportunity to improve patient outcomes and cut spiraling healthcare costs by helping clinicians select therapies that are likely to work based on the individual molecular characteristics of a patient. Through this, spending money on drugs that do not work and may produce serious side effects will be avoided. The complexity and genomic origins of cancer make this disease particularly amenable to precision medicine efforts.

Meet our first speaker, Dr. Johnathan Watkins, who will talk about some of the approaches and tools for precision cancer medicine research with a focus on genomic biomarkers. This part of the symposium will encompass study design, data sources, typical analyses, and methods for interpretation. A few examples of genomic-based biomarkers and their clinical impact will also be discussed.

Registration is on-going.
