𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘆.
The AVK Y-Strainer stands out because it provides efficient debris filtration with low pressure loss and exceptionally easy maintenance, helping extend the life of pumps, valves, meters, and other pipeline equipment.

Below is an actual installation photo provided by AVK from a Water Reclamation Facility in Metro Manila. This setup is designed to enhance operational reliability by providing pipeline protection, flow isolation, and simplified maintenance within the water treatment system. This is a standard and highly recommended arrangement for municipal water treatment, wastewater treatment, HVAC, and pumping applications.

Purpose of this installation:
👉Protection: The Y-strainer removes contaminants before they can damage equipment.
👉Isolation: Butterfly valves on either side allow the strainer to be isolated for cleaning
👉Easy maintenance: During maintenance it closes upstream butterfly valve, close downstream butterfly valve, drain the strainer, remove strainer cover, clean stainless-steel screen, and reassemble and return to service. This allows maintenance without shutting down the entire plant.

𝗔𝗩𝗞 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝟮𝟬 𝗠𝗟𝗗 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗼 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗹𝗮.
The illustration shows an upstream/downstream installation, where a check valve allows flow in upward direction that prevents backflow when the system stops or the pressure drops. Meanwhile, a butterfly valve is used for isolation that can manually or automatically shut-off flow.

For operational safety, when the pumps stops, the check valve closes automatically while the butterfly valve remains in its set position. Together, these valves ensure effective flow control, system protection and maintainability.

This setup highlights the advantage of using of high-durability valves, contributing to easy maintenance and long service life within the facility.

AVK double eccentric butterfly valves are designed with tilted and fixated disc for extended service life and easy operation. The disc seal is made of AVK’s drinking water approved EPDM rubber featuring an excellent compression set and thus ability to regain its original shape. The DVGW/WRAS approved epoxy coating and fully encapsulated shaft/disc connection ensure high durability. The valves are suitable for bi-directional application.

AVK Philippines supplied and delivered a range of butterfly valves for the 200 MLD Pumping Station in Metro Manila. All delivered in PN16 with IP68 gearbox in the following sizes: DN400, DN500, DN600, DN800, DN1000, DN1200, DN1400, and DN1600.

When choosing a check valve, it is important to make a cost-benefit analysis on a specific system. The goal is to frequently cut cost while also achieving the possible lowest pressure. In short, when it comes to check valves, a higher safety equates to a higher level of pressure loss.

The AVK single and multi door ‘Recoil’ high performance non-return valve has been designed after extensive practical hydraulic laboratory testing. These in-house tests have led to the development of a superior check valve that will close the instant forward flow ceases. The ‘Recoil’ valve will close in under one second thus eliminating the opportunity for water hammer. AVK manufactures recoil check valve from DN600-DN1600.
