Why AI Won't Replace Audio Post-Production Professionals
I also made them a short video demo on where AI in audio is currently being applied now.
There is a growing belief that AI will inevitably replace human creators, but when it comes to audio post-production, that day isn't coming anytime soon. Here is why skilled professionals remain irreplaceable.
1. AI is an Assistant, Not an Automator
Right now, AI tools don't run themselves; they are integrated into existing Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) that require human operators. Think of AI as an extended tool for digital processing. It excels at making tedious tasks quicker and more efficient, but it still needs a human at the wheel to manage the overall system.
2. The Danger of "Autopilot" Audio
The editing process cannot run autonomously. Without human oversight and critical thinking, AI-driven processing can easily miss the mark—resulting in audio that sounds either heavily over-processed or noticeably under-processed. Finding that perfect sonic balance requires human judgment, not just an algorithm.
3. You Can't Standardize Intuition
Tasks that require nuance, feeling, and artistic intuition are areas where generative AI falls flat. We’ve all seen AI-generated videos or lifelike visuals that look eerie, generic, and devoid of depth. The same risk applies to sound. Achieving a natural, emotionally resonant mix requires human intervention.
The Bottom Line: AI can replicate patterns, but it cannot replicate human creativity and emotion. It is a powerful tool to enhance our workflow, but it will never be a substitute for the human soul behind the sound.
