Abstract
Coffee research at its core is an interdisciplinary and rich field of study that welcomes all scholars from various industries—from food science, the humanities, tech, policy-making sectors, and business to name a few. This Brown Bag Session is an open invitation to all faculty across disciplines who want to experience and glimpse the possibilities not just of conducting research but also of teaching the subject of coffee. It seeks to engage DLSU faculty, along with University faculties from partner La Salle schools such as De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde, La Salle Araneta, La Salle Lipa, and De La Salle University – Laguna. The session is composed of an update on Malaysian coffee research led by Ts. Mohd Khairil Adzhar who is a Senior Research Officer at the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), specializing in microwave engineering. The session will culminate in a coffee tasting session to be led by Mr. Michael Tan, a global coffee professional and industry collaborator for coffee research in Malaysia, in order to better understand the complexities and nuances of this field of study.

Gines (DLSU Food and Water Institute), and collaborators for their new paper, Geographical origin differentiation of Philippine Robusta coffee (C.Canephora) using X-ray fluorescence-based elemental profiling with Chemometrics and machine learning, published in Food Chemistry (Q1, IF = 8.5)

This study explores a rapid and cost-effective approach utilizing Energy-Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence (EDXRF) elemental profiling combined with chemometrics and machine learning techniques.

Congratulations to Ms. KRIZZIA RAE S. GINES, M.S. Food Science, for being recognized as having the BEST PUBLISHED PAPER and HIGHEST IMPACT FACTOR in this Commencement Exercises at the University of Sto. Tomas!

Ms. Gines is currently a faculty member of DLSU's Department of Chemistry, and was a Research Assistant at the La Salle Food and Water Institute and Science Research Specialist at the Institute's Coffee and Cacao Traceability Project under DOST-PCIEERD's Food Authenticity and Traceability Program.
