MMDC’s Mine Environmental Protection and Enhancement Department headed by Engr. Julie Faith A. Llemit, conducted a marine assessment together with Marine Biologists from Rain2Reef Coastal Management Services. The property’s Causeway area was closely evaluated for vital underwater activity. Closely observed was the presence of hard and soft corals and other marine species like invertebrates,. This is clearly an indication of active marine life near the Causeway area.

Climate change has a significant impact on the environment, people, and economy. According to The Global Risks Report 2021, climate action failure is perceived as one of the most important risks globally, in terms of severity and probability. The role of the private sector is important in this task.

MMDC takes stewardship of the environment seriously as the company continues to work on implementing responsible mining methods and at the same time provide a sustainable solution to mine rehabilitation and long-term livelihood opportunities for future generations through our Bamboo initiatives.

With this, the company celebrated this year’s International Day of Climate Action by conducting enrichment planting at Sipangpang Mine Rehabilitation Area. The activity was participated in by 50 MMDC employees from different departments. A total of 600 plants were planted consisting of different species of ferns, ground orchids, pitcher plant, and regenerants which are collected from tree cutting areas of the company.
