In mining, comfort is not always observed. It is a fast pacing industry that demands decisiveness, discipline, and constant movement. While operations focus on production and technical performance, there are people working behind the scenes who make sure the workforce functions in an environment that is orderly, prepared, and cared for.
Today, for the HERStory feature of SMMCI, let us meet Ivory Anne S. Laderas, Admin Supervisor of Silangan, entrusted with giving comfort to the workforce of Silangan.

Ivory Anne did not plan to work in mining.
She finished her first course in HRM and later earned a degree in Education. If mining had been part of her original plan, she believes her academic journey might have looked very different.
Frankly, it was not on her list.
There was simply a hiring opportunity. She qualified. She stepped in.
She describes it honestly. She hopped onto the moving train without thinking too far ahead. Yet here she is, three years later, still in the industry, and still growing.
What inspired her to enter mining was not passion for the field at first. It was her determination to provide for her growing family. Over time, something shifted. She began to understand the importance of mining not only because she worked there, but because she saw how many families depended on it, including her own.

Outside of work, Ivory is a daughter. Most importantly, she is a mother to two young children.
Her family would describe her as responsible and caring. Despite the demands of her work, she tries to be present for them in every way she can.
Her greatest motivation is her growing family. Both she and her husband work, which means time with their children is limited. She spends most of her days on site, managing people, overseeing housekeeping and accommodations, and making sure things run smoothly.
The sacrifice of time is real. But so is her purpose.

Her transition into mining was not easy.
She knew how to teach. She had an educational background. Suddenly, she was managing orderliness, maintaining site aesthetics, overseeing housekeeping, and coordinating schedules and accommodations for VIPs and company leaders.
Any failure in her role could reflect on the image of Silangan. That weight shaped her perspective. She realized that while her role may not be technical, it is essential. Mining does not only progress because of equipment and engineering. It progresses because different roles function together.
She takes pride in what she contributes. She understands that maintaining comfort and order supports the entire workforce.

Working in a male dominated industry required adjustment.
Many of the people she leads and works with are men. Differences in perspective, especially in attention to detail, required her to adapt. She had to learn their system and understand their work culture.
Instead of resisting the differences, she tried to see things from their point of view. She learned to stand firm in her standards while understanding theirs.
She challenges the stereotype that women belong only inside the home. Women are capable. Women can lead. Women can work in high risk industries and stand on equal ground with men.
Her leadership reflects that belief.

One of her biggest challenges has been meeting expectations. In her role, everything must be organized. Everything must be ready. There is little room for error.
The pressure to perform without mistakes can be heavy. There were many moments when she almost gave up. Times when she felt it was her last straw. Yet by Godโs grace, she continued.
What kept her going were her children, her family, and the people who recognized her value. Knowing that someone saw her effort gave her strength to move forward.
Her keen attention to detail and decisiveness became her strongest tools. Mining taught her independence. It taught her to believe in her own abilities. It taught her that women can lead and make bold decisions without compromising their resolve.

Ivory believes women contribute uniquely to mining through initiative and proactiveness.
It is not only about doing what is instructed. It is about going beyond it. In her line of work, managing the comfort of the workforce requires foresight, organization, and care.
She believes that preparation and initiative are quiet forms of leadership.

To young women who want to enter mining, she offers this advice:
โWork with passion. Always leave room for improvement. Accept that you cannot do everything at once, and that is okay. Be ready for compromises. Patience and determination will help you thrive in this fast-paced industry.โ
And to all women this Womenโs Month, she shares:
โNot everything you planned will become your path. Seek Godโs guidance in every decision. Find fulfillment in the things you do, whether big or small. Do not underestimate yourself. You are not competing with everyone. You can shine in your own wayโ.
Ivoryโs story is a reminder that even in an industry where comfort is rarely showed, there are women working with care, precision, and strength behind the scenes.
HERStory continues in women who lead with decisiveness, serve with purpose, and balance career and motherhood with courage.
