Designing this commercial project required some creative structural problem-solving! Due to strict property line restrictions and underlying soft soil, traditional isolated footings simply weren't an option.

The solution? A full mat foundation to safely distribute the building's massive weight over the maximum possible footprint, preventing dangerous settlement.

​The Core Difference: Frequency and Resonance

• ​High-frequency (short-period) waves cause fast, jerky ground movements. They typically affect low-rise buildings because these short structures naturally vibrate at a fast pace.

• ​Low-frequency (long-period) waves cause slow, rolling ground movements (often traveling long distances from major magnitude quakes). They threaten high-rise buildings, which naturally sway at a slower pace. When the ground's shaking frequency matches the building's natural frequency, resonance occurs, violently amplifying the movement.
