FOOTING

Footings are essential structural elements that transfer the load of a building to the soil, ensuring the structure remains stable and prevents sinking or to uneven settlement.

Procedures of Footing Construction:

1. Excavation down to the designed depth +50mm for gravel bedding.
2. Compact the excavated soil.
3. Spread out gravel bedding for atleast 50mm thick.
4. Fabricate and Install the Rebars. Make sure to install the 75mm thick spacer blocks .
5. Install the Column Reinforcement and make sure to follow the development length needed as per design.
6. Protect the column reinforcement to avoid concrete mess during pouring.
7. Concrete Pouring with vibration to make sure the concrete will be evenly spread-out to the entire footing especially at the perimeter of the column.
8. Watering the concrete footing atleast 3x a day for 7 days for faster curing to meet its desired strength.

SPACER BLOCKS

These blocks are used as spacers to maintain the concrete cover of steel reinforcements. The depth varies depending on the type of structure and construction methodology. The cast-in-place concreting is commonly used in residential buildings wherein we use minimum concrete cover of 75mm for footing, 40mm for columns, beams and slab on grade and 20mm for suspended slab. Prestressed and precast methodology have other conditions as specified in the NSCP.
