ASEP visits SteelAsia Calaca City and Lemery sites

SteelAsia recently welcomed the Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. - ASEP to its Calaca City mill and the Lemery mill construction site in Batangas province, underscoring the growing collaboration between the steel industry and the country’s engineering community.

The ASEP delegation was led by President Ademar Pama, joined by Directors Jogz de Pedro, Jopat Rosal, and Maricon Pineda, as well as past presidents Dr. Gigi Garciano and Ariel Santos. Engineering PhD students Randy Salazar and Adrian Viloria from De La Salle University also participated in the visit.

During the plant tours, ASEP leaders and SteelAsia executives discussed the importance of updating steel standards to meet the evolving needs of the construction sector. The visit provided ASEP members with firsthand exposure to SteelAsia’s operations and future projects, reinforcing the shared commitment to ensuring safe, resilient, and sustainable infrastructure development in the Philippines.

SteelAsia emphasized that collaboration with ASEP and other industry organizations is vital to strengthening industry standards, promoting innovation, and supporting the modernization of the country’s construction practices.

SteelAsia and the University of San Carlos (USC) in Cebu forged a partnership to design and implement an on-the-job (OJT) program for the university’s Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering students.

The program aims to cultivate the knowledge and skills of the country’s future engineers through immersive training and first-hand experience in SteelAsia Compostela Works, the Philippines' most modern and largest rebar mill.

Makakasama natin sa talakayan si 𝗚𝗶𝗻𝗼𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗮, ang Chief Project Officer ng 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 sa Batangas, na isa ring dating OFW. Kasama pa niya ang isang mag-amang dating OFWs na sina Arnel at Archie De Leon, na nabigyan ng trabaho ng kumpanya para sa ganap nilang reintegrasyon.

𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐀𝐬𝐢𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐌𝐖 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐌𝐎𝐀 𝐨𝐧 𝐎𝐅𝐖 𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

SteelAsia Manufacturing Corporation signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) to support the agency’s National Reintegration Program for returning overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who wish to work for the company.

DMW Sec. Hans Leo Cacdac and SteelAsia chairman & CEO Benjamin Yao led the signing ceremony held during Migrant Workers Health Summit 2026 last June 30 in Quezon City.

Under the three-year agreement, the DMW will provide SteelAsia access to a registry of returning OFWs whose positions, skills, and competencies are aligned with the company’s requirements for its job vacancies reserved for qualified applicants.

Both the company and the agency will also ensure the smooth transition of the returning OFWs into local jobs in the steel manufacturing industry.

“We are honored to work with the DMW as part of the company’s mission to contribute to nation-building alongside our modern heroes. By working together, we are not only bringing breadwinners closer to their families—we are also getting back world class skills and experience to develop the country’s steel industry,” Yao said.

“It’s a win-win-win for returning OFWs, SteelAsia, and the steel industry,” he added.

Reintegrated OFWs who are now working on SteelAsia’s upcoming steel sections mill in Lemery, Batangas were also invited to witness the ceremony.

Strengthening industry-government collaboration for a more competitive Philippine manufacturing sector.

It was our pleasure at SteelAsia Manufacturing Corporation to welcome theDepartment of Science and Technology – Metals Industry Research and Development Center (DOST MIRDC) Executive Director Robert O. Dizon and his team to our Batangas facilities.

The visit showcased SteelAsia’s green steel production operations in Calaca, Batangas, the SteelAsia Training Academy, and the company’s upcoming Lemery, Batangas facility — the country’s first steel section mill, which will play a key role in strengthening domestic steel manufacturing and supporting Philippine industrialization. Discussions also explored potential collaboration opportunities with DOST-MIRDC in technology, innovation, and workforce development.

We thank Executive Director Dizon, Dr. Agustin Fudolig, Engr. Rodnel Tamayo, Engr. Arlene Estacio, Engr. Lina Afable, Engr. Glen Espeña, and Mr. Restituto Gabuya for the productive engagement and shared commitment to advancing Philippine industry.

As part of the Department of Education’s Brigada Eskwela program, volunteers from SteelAsia shared their time and effort to help prepare public schools in their communities for the upcoming opening of classes.

They helped in repairing classroom chairs, repainting school facilities, cleanup and renovation to ensure schoolchildren can return to a safe and conducive learning environment.
