Dubai has unveiled plans for Mall of the World, a massive urban project designed to keep streets, public spaces, and attractions fully climate-controlled year-round, even during extreme heat.

The project is planned to span approximately 48 million square feet, making it one of the largest mixed-use developments ever proposed, integrating retail, hospitality, leisure, and residential zones.

At its core will be a 7-kilometer air-conditioned promenade connecting major attractions, including a glass-domed indoor theme park and what is expected to become the world’s largest shopping mall.

City planners see this as a response to rising global temperatures, positioning climate-controlled urban environments as a possible model for future cities in hot regions.

If completed as envisioned, Mall of the World could dramatically reshape tourism, potentially hosting up to 180 million visitors per year and redefining how cities balance comfort, scale, and sustainability.
