Solar Impulse 2, the plane trying to fly around the world without fuel, has landed in California after a two-and-a-half day flight across the Pacific.

Last April 23, although one day late, we had a very special celebration. We took part in an event that taught kids and adults alike how to convert kerosene lamps into fully functioning solar reading lanterns. By combining a simple circuit, LED, a solar panel and a battery, we were able to make our very own solar lantern in a matter of minutes!

This project was a collaboration between The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (Philippines) and A Liter of Light (Isang Litrong Liwanag) in order to help raise awareness and funds to continue their mission of bringing light to off-grid communities around the Philippines. The lamps created from this project are going to be donated to families of the Dumagat Tribe who have no access to electricity.

This experience was a quick reminder to us here at Solar Republic of what we want to achieve: to bring Solar Power to the hands of every Filipino. Be it through solar rooftop installations or home made Liters of Light, we're working for sustainable and clean energy for all.
