Thermal insulation was applied to the existing façades before they were clad in dark ALUCOBOND® panels in four different shades of grey. The dark, glossy façade material does not only ensure a contemporary, elegant appearance, ALUCOBOND® also provides a high level of resistance to weathering and vandalism. Panels were chosen in different formats, sizes and gloss levels as a means of introducing more variety into the large expanses of façade and reducing them to a more human scale. A new office quarter has been built precisely here, at the airport, and the Smart Office by SOP Architekten is set right in the middle. The Smart Office has a lot in common with Düsseldorf itself: at first glance, it looks business-like, elegant, urbane and sizeable in its dark ALUCOBOND® façade in terra Lava Nera, architecturally in keeping with the characteristic post-war modernism in the state capital. On a corner plot near the beach, a team of local architects from Ballina Canal have constructed a very special building with a dark, metallic curtain façade which appears to be totally in tune with this very moody, watery grey environment. Clad in ALUCOBOND® anodised look, the balustrades on its balconies extend like ribbons all around the building, weaving inwards or outwards to create moving, silver-grey light reflections in the narrow street space. Like the Frog Prince in person, straight out of a Grimms’ fairy tale, this impressive house sits on the shores of Lake Constance. Viewed from above, its segmented layout is truly reminiscent of a reptile basking in the sun by the lake. Not only the structure’s shape seemed striking; the previous façade featured dark, square façade panels with white floral motifs and distinct light coloured joints. In the course of renovating the façade, the Swiss architects, Christian Loos and Pascal Meer updated the building, fashioning a more contemporary design. Anodized look C34 ALUCOBOND® panels, extending the full length of the storey, were bonded onto the structure creating extremely thin joints and delivering a more elegant, more timeless and more understated appearance. It’s time for our new inspiration of the month: May // Edificio Marizada | Spain

Seen from a distance, this impressive corner building in Gijón, a coastal town in northern Spain, is reminiscent of a dark, rugged rock face. A matt black Anodized Look C34 ALUCOBOND® façade envelopes the exterior of the apartment building and its balconies. Weaving in and out, the metallic bands surround the building and sporadically intersect with vertical supports. So, in spite of its dramatic appearance, the building conveys refined organic and monochrome elegance.😍

By having the railway station completely renovated and redesigned, Graz, Austria's second-largest city, has also rolled up its sleeves and tackled the question of mobility. The result is a more spacious transport hub which can cope with more rail traffic and a higher number of passengers. Replacing the old tram loop with new underground tracks has created a station forecourt which is not only designed to look exclusive but also to offer protection from the elements and offer a pleasant waiting area. At the same time, the structure has become a prime example of climate-friendly, urban city spaces. Based on the loop of the tram rails, Zechner and Zechner architects developed a roof with an oval disc.

They planned a sweeping, large open staircase, extensive glass roofing and a glass shop frontage for the station itself. The closed surfaces of the station are clad with White Silver ALUCOBOND® tray panels which reflect the daylight and, at night, the square’s carefully planned lighting. The heart of the new station is its roof, which extends way out over the forecourt. It too is clad in silver-white, highly reflective ALUCOBOND® panels. Especially in the evening, the spotlights and light reflections on the canopy make it sparkle in the darkness, clearly highlighting the waiting area on the forecourt and adding a touch of theatre.
