Geologists from around the globe can share and contribute the photos & information regarding Earth Sciences here. Especially any input from the UoH geologists will be highly appreciated. The University of Haripur (UoH) being established in July, 2012 was formally recognized by HEC in Jan, 2013. Soon after UoH establishment the Department of Earth Sciences embarked on its academic journey in fall s

emester, 2012. Academic program at BS (4 Years) was launched with initial enrollment of 100 students in its first ever batch. Since its inception till date the department witnessed vigorous growth in diverse spheres of its academic and research aspects. The department offers admissions in BS, MPhil & PhD programs. The Department of Earth Sciences, The University of Haripur successfully organized a highly informative seminar on:

**“Life Cycle of Oil and Gas Field: From Discovery to Abandonment”**

The seminar provided students and faculty members with comprehensive insight into the complete journey of an oil and gas field, covering:

🔹 Basin analysis and hydrocarbon exploration
🔹 Geological and geophysical investigations
🔹 Reservoir characterization and evaluation
🔹 Drilling and field development
🔹 Production and reservoir management
🔹 Enhanced recovery techniques
🔹 Environmental management and field abandonment

The session was delivered by **Mr. Mohsin Munir, Deputy Chief Reservoir Geologist**, who shared valuable industry experience, practical case studies, and professional knowledge regarding petroleum exploration and reservoir management.

The event served as an excellent platform for bridging academic learning with real-world petroleum industry practices. Students actively participated in discussions and gained exposure to modern exploration and production techniques used in the energy sector.

The Department extends sincere gratitude to the Chief guest Director ASRB Dr. Samiullah Khan, honorable speaker, faculty members, organizing committee, and students for making the seminar successful and productive.

The Department of Earth Sciences appreciate Mr. Tofeeq Ahmed and the team for successful publication.

Bringing Rocks to Life Through Microscopes and Hands-On Learning!

The laboratory practicals on Rock Identification and Petrographic Examination provided students with an excellent opportunity to explore the fascinating world of rocks and minerals through both hand specimen analysis and microscopic investigation.

During the practical session, students learned to identify the major rock types — igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks — based on their physical characteristics such as texture, color, grain size, mineral composition, and structures. The hands-on exercises enhanced their understanding of geological processes and rock formation.

Using the petrographic microscope, students examined thin sections to study:

Mineral identification
Optical properties of minerals
Rock textures and fabric
Crystallization patterns
Metamorphic features and deformation structures

These practical activities play a vital role in strengthening students’ analytical skills and bridging the gap between theoretical geology and real-world geological interpretation.

👏 Such laboratory experiences are essential for developing future geologists capable of understanding Earth materials with scientific precision and confidence.

A wonderful opportunity for our students to learn from the Industry professionals.
