During my discussion with the delegation yesterday, I raised the critical issue of water for Sindh.
The Indus River is the lifeline for tens of millions of Pakistanis, and protecting that water resource is vital.
I am also very concerned to hear of unrest in the city of Moro, Pakistan, and the deaths of Irfan & Zahid Laghari, who were killed while protesting for water rights in Sindh.
For years, the people of have faced political repression through enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings. Since its founding in 2011, Pakistan’s own Human Rights Commission has documented over 8,000 cases of enforced disappearances, many of which have never been properly investigated.
I have raised the problem of enforced disappearances with Pakistani officials directly and will continue to work to ensure that these issues receive the attention they deserve.
