NEPRA Public Hearing regarding net metering
Dated September 27, 2022.
Today attended the subject meeting, which remained very informative and useful. Main focus was the proposed amendment in Net-Metering regulations so that excess generation could be calculated @ Rs. 9/- as compared to current rate of calculation. NEPRA's stance is that they have to watch the interest of 36 million users of electricity rather than to generator of excessive export by domestic generator who are only around 20,000/-. Moreover, this policy was introduced to offset the domestic users of electricity to the extent of their consumption. It is not to make money. The proposed amendment will not effect the generators of electricity to the extent of their own consumption. Moreover, the payback of investment on solar plant will still be short and viable as the cost of electricity is going up.
The public representative were of the view that terms of license cannot be altered till the life of license. This could only be applicable prospectively not retrospectively.
On the grievances of consumers of K Electric the Chairman assured that a separate meeting will be called. Moreover, the issue has never been taken up with NEPRA.
The meeting ended with understanding on either side. The useful suggestions and concerns of consumers shall be revisited and protected.
