Why does a suction line filter drier have core valves?

After a compressor burn out, a suction acid drier is preferred to clean up the system. Using the cores, we can quickly check the pressure drop across the drier.

This will indicate if the drier is beginning to plug up. Do you come back and remove the drier after, or do you monitor and change out when needed?
