M. Bilal Asghar (Community Challenge Prize Winner 2019): I’m currently a 12th grade student, and I love to play video games. But occasionally, I feel I waste too much time gaming. I decided to turn my hobby into a potential career and started learning game development when I was 15 years old. My brother, Fahad, and I professionally started building games on Fiverr.

One day, I came across a Facebook ad about Developer Circles Community Challenge 2019. I decided to participate in the challenge together with Fahad, and we embarked on a new project called "ColorMax", an e-learning app for children through which they can draw and colour pictures using a variety of tools, and also brush up on the alphabet and numbers. On the day of the result, we were surprised to see that our game stood first in the Asia Pacific (APAC) Regional Round. We were able to secure a position in the Best in Gaming & Entertainment category in the global round as well. And guess what - today, neither of us thinks gaming is a waste of time!

Katherine Coleman Goble Johnson (born August 26, 1918) is an African-American mathematician whose calculations of orbital mechanics as a NASA employee were critical to the success of the first and subsequent U.S. manned spaceflights. During her 35-year career at NASA and its predecessor, she earned a reputation for mastering complex manual calculations and helped the space agency pioneer the use of computers to perform the tasks. Her work included calculating trajectories, launch windows and emergency return paths for Project Mercury spaceflights, including those of astronauts Alan Shepard, the first American in space, and John Glenn, the first American in orbit, and rendezvous paths for the Apollo lunar lander and command module on flights to the Moon. Her calculations were also essential to the beginning of the Space Shuttle program, and she worked on plans for a mission to Mars. In 2015, President Barack Obama awarded Johnson the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

When you work so hard that you cause textbooks to be rewritten. 😎

in 1982 Nobel Laureate Dan Shechtman (pictured left) looked down his microscope and discovered a crystal with 5-fold symmetry - a form that was thought to be impossible. His new crystals, called quasicrystals, caused uproar, and eventually textbooks had to be rewritten across the globe.
