A spectacular achievement for Pakistan!
Team Pakistan, selected and trained by PIEAS under the auspices of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), won one gold and two silver medals at the 3rd International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO-2026), held in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, from August 2–8, 2026. Supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the competition brought together around 120 students and experts from 19 countries, including China, Japan, Russia, Türkiye, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Muhammad Ali from GC University Lahore , won a gold medal, while Muhammad Usman from F.G Sir Syed College, The Mall, Rawalpindi cantt , and Seerat Fatima Bhatti from Nixor College, Karachi, secured silver medals for Pakistan. Syed Shuja Haider from Sundar STEM School, Lahore, also represented Pakistan at the Olympiad.
The students were selected through the Pakistan Nuclear Science Olympiad (PANSO), an initiative of PAEC aimed at identifying and nurturing young scientific talent for participation in the International Nuclear Science Olympiad. The selection process was jointly conducted by the Directorate of Education, PAEC Headquarters, and PIEAS. Following their selection, the students underwent specialized training and mentoring by distinguished faculty at PIEAS in preparation for the international competition.

We are pleased to share that Pakistan has won a Bronze Medal and an Honorable Mention at the 3rd International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI), held in Astana, Kazakhstan, from August 2–8, 2026.
This marks Pakistan’s first-ever participation in the IOAI under the umbrella of the STEM Careers Programme, a joint venture of Higher Education Commission, Pakistan and PIEAS. Huzaifa Rehman of Fauji Foundation College, Attock, Rawalpindi, secured the Bronze Medal, while Ayan Zeeshan of Aitchison College, Lahore, received an Honorable Mention. The Pakistan team was led by Dr. Asifullah Khan.
Prior to their departure for Kazakhstan, the team underwent a three-week intensive training camp, which provided focused preparation for the competition. Pakistan’s participation in the IOAI was undertaken as a special initiative of the Chairman, Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan, reflecting the importance being accorded to Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies in Pakistan’s national education, research, and innovation agenda.

Rector PIEAS Dr. Anila Usman and Pro-Rector PIEAS Dr. Jamil Ahmad met with the students representing Pakistan in International Olympiads on AI (IOAI) and International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO). Speaking on the occasion, Rector PIEAS appreciated their dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence. She acknowledged the valuable support of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), and IAEA in providing Pakistani students with opportunities to participate in prestigious INSO. She commended the efforts Higher Education Commission, Pakistan in taking initiative to enable participation of Pakistani students in IOAI under the umbrella of STEM Careers Programme, providing valuable exposure to young students in emerging areas of science and technology.

Prof. Dr. Asifullah Khan, Team Leader of IOAI, and Dr. Sajjad Tahir, Team Leader of INSO, were also present, along with Prof. Dr. Waqas Ahmed, Program Director, STEM Careers Programme. The students expressed their gratitude to PIEAS and acknowledged the intensive preparation and guidance provided by their mentors and expressed their determination to represent Pakistan with pride.

It is a matter of great pleasure to report that Pakistan is participating in the 3rd International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI), being held in Astana, Kazakhstan, from 2–8 August 2026. This is for the first time Pakistan is participating in the IOAI under umbrella of STEM Careers Program. The participation has been undertaken as a special initiative of the Chairman Higher Education Commission, Pakistan Prof. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, reflecting the importance being accorded to Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies in Pakistan's national education and research agenda.
A national team comprising four talented students has been selected to represent Pakistan at this prestigious international competition including Huzaifa Rehman (Fauji foundation college Attock, Rawalpindi), Ahmad Sadaan Cheema (Beaconhouse College Program, Faisalabad), Ayan Zeeshan (Aitchison College, Lahore), and Saad Munir, (Aitchison College, Lahore). Professor Dr. khan, PIEAS is leading the team in IOAI along with Dr. Muhammad Kamran, Aitchison College as deputy team leader/observer. The team participated in a 3-week intensive training camp at PIEAS prior to their departure.

Pakistan's IMO Team delivered an impressive performance at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad 2026 in Shanghai, China (July 10–21), securing two bronze medals for Muhammad Ahmad Bhatti and Muhammad Mahad Arif, while Muhammad Abdul Rafay Khan and Shahmeer Khan earned Honourable Mentions. Prior to the Olympiad, the team attended the International Mathematics Summer Camp (IMSC 2026) in Beijing, China (June 20–July 10), where Bhatti and Arif also won bronze medals. The IMO team was led by Dr. Hani Shaker as Leader and Dr. Kashif Ali as Deputy Team Leader. The students were trained at COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, under the training programme led by Dr. Sarfraz Ahmad (Coordinator, National Mathematics Talent Contest - NMTC) and Dr. Hani Shaker (Deputy Coordinator NMTC & In-charge, Office of International Activities in Mathematics - OIAM). The STEM Career Program, a joint venture of PIEAS and Higher Education Commission, PakistanHEC, serves as the primary supporting body for all International Science Olympiads (ISOs) and played a key role in facilitating Pakistan's participation in the IMO. The Pakistan delegation extends its heartfelt congratulations to all four students for their dedication and outstanding achievements on the global stage.
