Pakistan has repaid a $1.4 billion commercial loan to China as part of its external debt obligations, with refinancing expected in the coming weeks, according to State Bank Governor Jameel Ahmad.
He said Pakistan repaid $2.2 billion in external loans during July 2026 and purchased $28 billion over the past three years to strengthen foreign exchange reserves.
The country's gross external financing requirement has also declined from $26.5 billion to $21.5 billion, easing repayment pressure.
Pakistan is also seeking the rollover of $12 billion in deposits from Saudi Arabia and China.
