Working together for safer public buildings in Pakistan

This week our KnK Japan team visited the Pakistan Engineering Council’s head office in Islamabad. Led by Ms Ayako Otake, Ms Sayaka, and Mr Javed Iqbal, we met with PEC Chairman Engr. Waseem Nazir and his colleagues to discuss how to make schools and public facilities stronger in the face of floods and other natural disasters.

We shared the results of our recent assessments in Balochistan carried out using global best‑practice methods and highlighted practical solutions such as retrofits, flood‑protection walls, cavity‑wall construction, and fly‑ash bricks made from industrial waste. The PEC team welcomed our ideas and proposed creating guidelines and training materials so engineers and local entrepreneurs across Pakistan can put these measures into practice.

We’re excited to form a joint working group with the Pakistan Engineering Council to turn these plans into reality. Together, we can help protect communities and create green jobs across the country.
