In the world of Quality Assurance & Quality Control, ensuring work is executed as per approved standards is not just a responsibility — it’s a commitment to safety, reliability, and excellence.
Two key concepts every QA/QC professional must clearly understand are Hold Points and Witness Points. Here’s a simple and practical breakdown:
🔴 Hold Point (HP)
A Hold Point is a mandatory inspection stage where work must stop until approval is given by the client, consultant, or QA/QC authority.
👉 No work can proceed beyond this stage without formal clearance.
👉 It ensures critical activities meet required standards before continuation.
📍 Example:
Inspection of reinforcement before concrete pouring — once concrete is poured, defects cannot be corrected.
🟡 Witness Point (WP)
A Witness Point is an inspection stage where the client or consultant is invited to observe, but work can proceed if they choose not to attend.
👉 It provides transparency without stopping progress.
👉 If the inspector is absent, work continues after proper notification.
📍 Example:
Witnessing pressure testing or material delivery inspection.
