🚨 Important Update: Prosumer Regulation 2025 — Net Metering Discontinued, Net Billing Implemented 🚨

According to the latest policy change, Net Metering has been replaced with Net Billing.
This decision brings a major financial change for solar consumers, especially new users.

🔹 What has changed?

✅ 1) Fundamental change in the system
Previously, under Net Metering, imported and exported units were adjusted against each other.
Now, under Net Billing, electricity purchased from the grid and electricity sold to the grid will be billed separately.

✅ 2) Reduced Buyback Rate for Existing Users
Previous rate: approx. Rs. 27 per unit
New rate: approx. Rs. 25–26 per unit

✅ 3) Significant reduction in Buyback Rate for New Users
New rate: approx. Rs. 11 per unit
This means new users will receive much lower compensation for the electricity they export to the grid.

✅ 4) Consumption will continue to be billed at regular tariff
All users will pay for imported (consumed) units.
This rate can be around Rs. 40 per unit or higher, depending on taxes and surcharges.

🔹 Impact on average consumers

📌 Longer payback period for solar investment
Especially for new users, recovery of investment will take longer.

📌 Lower bill reduction than before
Due to the large gap between buying and selling rates.

📌 Load management is now more important
Using your own solar power during daytime is more beneficial than before.

🔹 Difference between Existing and New Users
Existing users will receive a relatively better rate (Rs. 25–26/unit), though lower than before.
New users receiving around Rs. 11/unit will face a significant financial disadvantage.

🔹 Recommended Actions

✅ Review your load profile
✅ Maximize daytime self-consumption
✅ Evaluate battery/hybrid options (technical & financial)
✅ Perform a complete ROI calculation before installing new solar systems
