The Nobel-awarded genetic scissors CRISPR-Cas9 has been called one of the "most beautiful examples we have of how basic research can revolutionize the entire science world." In our opinion, it is also another great example of science looking beyond discipline boundaries!

Let the 2020 marathon of Nobel Prize announcements begin!

The Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet has decided to award the 2020 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine jointly to Harvey J. Alter, Michael Houghton and Charles M. Rice “for the discovery of Hepatitis C virus.”

This year’s Nobel Prize is awarded to three scientists who have made a decisive contribution to the fight against blood-borne hepatitis, a major global health problem that causes cirrhosis and liver cancer in people around the world.

Harvey J. Alter, Michael Houghton and Charles M. Rice made seminal discoveries that led to the identification of a novel virus, Hepatitis C virus. Prior to their work, the discovery of the Hepatitis A and B viruses had been critical steps forward, but the majority of blood-borne hepatitis cases remained unexplained. The discovery of Hepatitis C virus revealed the cause of the remaining cases of chronic hepatitis and made possible blood tests and new medicines that have saved millions of lives.

It is a great pleasure to announce our second episode of E-pint of Chemometrics. After the success of our first talk, we will have the great Dr. Cristina Malegori from the University of Genoa (Italy). This time we will learn about “Hyperspectral Image Processing: Best Strategies for Extracting the Info”.

So, as you all know, the best ideas arise over a bar table. Therefore, we invite you to our digital beer garden that aims to attenuate this social distancing caused by the pandemic.
We will be waiting for you at 2 pm (Brazilian time), 7 pm (Italian time) on Thursday, October 1st, to celebrate science and talk about images.
