Profiled and carved wood is particularly difficult to clean, especially in heritage restoration, where the material is often weakened by years of use and exposure to weather. That’s why we designed the HULK1000 for work in hard-to-reach corners and on delicate, non-uniform surfaces. In the video, you can see our multimode laser cleaning the historic doors of a 14th-century cathedral in Eastern Europe.

Working with multimode cleaning lasers like HULK 500 has many advantages: it gives the operator access to sensitive, hard-to-reach areas that are difficult to operate on. Our mobile laser cleaning systems enable highly precise calibration of beam parameters, which is why they’re recommended and consistently pass art conservators’ audits. As you can see in the video, the old protective coating on the wood was effectively ablated without the slightest scratch on the glass or the joints.

Cleaning with this laser took a few hours. Using traditional methods, the same process would have taken several days.
Laser systems significantly simplify conservators’ work by eliminating the risks associated with abrasive or chemical treatment of materials. Our HULK1000 laser was created with delicate heritage surfaces in mind, so conservators can work without unnecessary stress.

When cleaning wooden houses, the most important thing is to avoid damaging the natural building material. In this case, the owner wanted to remove algae and the weathered outer layer. For the cleaning trials, we used the HULK 500 laser thanks to its high pulse energy, which, when cleaning wood, reduces thermal impact and does not interfere with the timber structure. For wood cleaning, we typically choose high-fluence laser systems because they allow flexible parameter adjustment. Since the owner prioritized quality, our multimode laser and the cleaning trial itself were carried out under the supervision of a heritage conservator.

Many old, delicate building materials can have a non-uniform structure, which requires both high device power and specifically tailored laser beam parameters. Our multimode HULK1000 lasers are regularly used under the supervision of heritage conservators, thanks to their suitable parameters, process precision, and flexible calibration.

Restoring a historic site requires a lot of preparation before the actual work begins. With the cleaning lasers, calibrating the device to delicate, aged surfaces is extremely flexible and significantly speeds up the restoration process. This is confirmed by numerous heritage conservators who have audited our equipment.

A few hours of laser work vs. a few days using traditional methods. How do you like the results?
The video shows the beautiful doors of the historic Legnica Cathedral, where renovations are regularly carried out using our multimode lasers. This time, we used the HULK1000, our largest machine. At the same time, thanks to its wide beam divergence, flat power distribution, and specialized solutions, it’s also the most gentle option in the cleaning process.

These historic bricks were almost black from decades of accumulated grime.

Each one had been hand-formed and irregularly fired - differing in color, density, and hardness.
From these unique bricks rises the tower of the Legnica Cathedral — a structure of great historical importance and exceptional conservation sensitivity.

Within the tower’s masonry, well-preserved bricks stand next to heavily weathered ones.
With such a non-uniform structure, traditional architecture cleaning methods pose a serious risk of micro-cracks and salt efflorescence on the surface.

Because the dirt was difficult to remove and the original material extremely delicate, we chose the Flaser HULK 300, a multimode pulsed laser.

Thanks to precise control of power and pulse frequency, we were able to adjust the parameters to various levels of contamination and brick hardness.

The result? A thoroughly cleaned monument - no scratches, no structural changes.
No chemicals, no abrasion, no harm to the environment.

Flaser cleaning lasers from the HULK series are the safest and most precise solution in the field of heritage cleaning and restoration.

Summary: Laser cleaning in Legnica’s Cathedral, Poland.

We restored 200 m² of aged sandstone balconies at the top of the cathedral’s tower - using precision laser ablation technology.

The Value:
Legnica Cathedral is one of the oldest and most important landmarks in the city, with a history dating back to the early 13th century.
A large amount of original sandstone was preserved, making the tower an exceptionally valuable heritage object.

The challenges:
Working at height.
Handling delicate, centuries-old sandstone showing clear signs of aging, erosion, and atmospheric contamination.

The tool:
HULK 500 multimode ablation laser, equipped with a 15-meter fiber-optic cable for precision cleaning at altitude.

The process:
- Controlled operation using low energy densities and gradual power calibration.
- Removal of surface deposits - urban pollution, black patina, and biological growth.
- Preservation of the original texture and natural color variations of the sandstone.
- Reduction of dust and waste emissions - essential in sacred heritage environments.

The Conservator’s assessment:
The process was recognized as both effective and safe for conservation.
For everyone involved, it was rewarding to see centuries-old craftsmanship revealed safely and beautifully through light.

At Flaser, we specialize in laser ablation cleaning systems dedicated to art restoration, architecture, and heritage conservation.
Get the HULK 500 and see how Flaser can support your conservation projects.
