This is the official page of the Institute of Oceanology Polish Academy of Sciences (IO PAN) Scientific Diving Team. Among us there are several professors, diving instructors as well as “early career” divers, all linked together by shared projects and the love for diving – our research tool. Trained in several agencies including CMAS, IANTD, SSI, and PADI, diving since the 1990s, we are s
till improving our diving techniques. From the scientific point of view the key field of our competence and interest is biodiversity and ecosystem responses to climate change. Many studies concern the role of ecosystem engineers in the functioning of benthic communities; processes of colonization and succession on rocky bottom and factors controlling them; polar night (recently)... So far focused mostly on fjord ecosystems, thus cold water, we worked in both polar regions, without, however, forgetting about our local field that is the Baltic Sea. If you would like to involve in some of our diving activities please stay tuned as a helping hand might be needed…
