Archaeologia Polona, volume 63 (2025)

Special theme: Corded World: Final Eneolithic societies

In 2025, the leading topic of the volume Archaeologia Polona is the end of the Eneolithic in Europe, particularly the issue of cultures with Corded Ware. In recent years, there has been a lot of talk about the genetic relationships between Corded Ware societies and the Yamna steppe populations. Nevertheless, from the beginning of European prehistoric studies, research on Corded Ware cultures has been associated with one of the breakthrough periods in history - the prologue in the genesis of the European Bronze Age civilisation. The preliminary volume will include all types of studies on the Corded Ware culture in various regions of Europe, including presentations of discoveries, revitalisations of old research, and different archaeometric studies.

Article submissions for volume 63 of Archaeologia Polona are accepted until 15 May 2025.

The volume editors are Piotr Włodarczak ([email protected]) and Dagmara H. Werra ([email protected]).

We are excited to announce the publication of the thematic volume of "Archeologia Polona - Pontic Olbia in the Post-Roman Period," now available online! 🥳

This volume features 12 scientific articles authored by distinguished Polish and Ukrainian experts on late antiquity in the Black Sea basin. 🤓The articles summarize findings from excavations conducted by the Institute of Archeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Olbia Pontica, Ukraine, and also propose new research hypotheses based on these findings. The contributions in this volume enhance our understanding of the Migration Period and highlight the significance of Olbia Pontica during this time.

Additionally, the volume includes intriguing articles on the origins of the Polish school of Mediterranean archaeology in Lviv, aspects of trading Olbia coins online, and the history of fortifications around Kyiv, covering the period from the Mongol invasion to the current Russian invasion.

The guest editors of this volume are Dr. Alfred Twardecki (IAE PAN) and Prof. Alla Buiskykh (IA NANU), on the photo below. 🇵🇱🇺🇦

We invite you to explore this work!
