UniStem Day at IMol - Inspiring the Next Generation of Scientists .

Last Friday, March 20, UniStem Day took place at IMol, bringing together science and curiosity in an inspiring way.
Organized by Dr. Anita Florkowska and supported by many members of IMol Institute, the event aimed to promote knowledge about stem cells and explore the fascinating world of stem cell biology.

We had the pleasure of hosting high school students from Staszic School and Raszyńska School. The day began with engaging seminars in the morning, followed by hands-on workshops in the afternoon, giving participants a chance to experience science beyond the classroom.

It was a fantastic opportunity to share our passion for research and to connect with future scientists. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this event such a success - and to our guests for their enthusiasm and curiosity!

We’re also glad to continue the momentum with today's workshop by Dynamic42 GmbH on organ-on-a-chip technology.

👏 A big thank you to All speakers (Dr. Anna Konturek-Cieśla, Dr. hab Agata Szade, Dr. Zuzanna Jablonska, Dr. Vladyslava Liudkovska, Daniel Grygorowicz, Dr. Kamila Karpińska, Dr. Łukasz Biegała) and participants!

In a recent conversation between Nobel Prize laureate Prof. Victor Ambros and Prof. Dariusz Jemielniak, they highlight a vital reminder for all of us in the research community: the biggest barrier in science today isn't a lack of knowledge - it’s a lack of trust.

Their discussion also shows how breakthroughs like microRNA research have transformed our understanding of gene regulation, illustrating how fundamental curiosity can lead to major discoveries.

The speakers point out the growing problem of misinformation, which undermines public trust in science and makes it harder to communicate research findings. An important theme is the need for greater openness in science, reducing rigid hierarchies, and supporting research freedom.

Overall, the piece shows that the future of science depends not only on biological discoveries but also on communication quality, public trust, and how the scientific community is organized.

💡Today in Warsaw we are concluding our scientific week with the conference “Science. Patients. Therapies.”, where Prof. Victor Ambros, 2024 Nobel Prize Laureate in Physiology or Medicine and discoverer of microRNA - is delivering a special lecture on how RNA biology is shaping the future of precision medicine and rare disease therapies.

The event was initiated by Dr. Aldona Chmielewska (AGO Alliance Poland), who has turned scientific expertise toward finding a treatment for her son diagnosed with the ultra-rare AGO syndrome. In collaboration with families, clinicians, and researchers - and with the support of the IMol and Warszawski Uniwersytet Medyczny - WUM - she brought the scientific and patient communities around a shared goal. We deeply admire her dedication and courage in turning personal challenges into hope for others.

The program also features a talk by Prof. Maciej Ciesla from IMol, presenting our institute’s research and how our work in RNA biology contributes to advancing new therapeutic strategies.

At IMol, we are proud to support initiatives that connect world-class science with real patient needs. Welcoming internationally recognized scientists such as Prof. Victor Ambros to Warsaw reflects our commitment to building global collaborations that accelerate research and bring new therapeutic opportunities closer to patients. 🌍

Special thanks to the IMol Organizing Committee: Prof. Agnieszka Chacińska, Prof. Maciej Ciesla and Zofia Majkowska!
