Dear colleagues,
The Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) is sponsoring the Work Systems Track at the 2015 IIE Annual Conference and Expo. The IIE Annual Conference and Expo is the Institute of Industrial Engineer's premier annual professional development event for:
Industry - managers, engineers, staff, and line personnel who drive productivity and efficiency in their organizations.
Academia - researchers advancing the science and application of industrial engineering
A work system is a system in which human participants and/or machines perform work using information, technology, and other resources to produce products and/or services for internal or external customers
Vision
Work Systems Division is to be the leading source for promoting advancements in the science, mathematics, and engineering principles that define Work Systems.
The Work Systems Division inspires those with an interest in designing, implementing, analyzing, and improving Work Systems in all environments (terrestrial, subterranean, underwater, atmospheric, outer space, cyberspace, etc.)
The Work Systems Division of IIE was founded in 2012 to define a general scientific model and practices for best understanding and coordinating the activities of an organization to achieve its stated goals. As the IIE supports and promotes the common improvement methodologies in use such as Lean and Six Sigma, so does the Work Systems Division. However, as engineering is "the application of science and mathematics by which the properties of matter and the sources of energy in nature are made useful to people,(1)" the Work Systems Division is pushing for a comprehensive, rigorous definition of Industrial Engineering science and, thereby, its application.
As track chairs of Work Systems Track, we would like to encourage you to contribute to the conference by submitting an abstract.
There are two categories for abstracts:
1) Applied Solutions - Applied Solutions papers present proven solutions from applying industrial and systems engineering principles within industry, healthcare or service companies.
2) Industrial Systems and Engineering Research Conference (ISERC) - these papers describe academic and new research or modeling for systems applied to Work Systems science and Industrial Engineering.
Papers on legal aspects of Work Systems may be submitted to either track as is appropriate.
Authors of accepted abstracts will be invited to present their work in Work System sessions at the conference. Abstracts are welcome in the following areas:
ISERC
Applied Solutions
Work Systems Modeling and Design
Work Systems Standardization
Simulation of Work Systems
Work Systems Measurement, Analysis, and Optimization
High Performance Work Systems
Applying A Science of Continuous Improvement
Performance Boundaries: How Does a Manager Know What's Best Possible?
Work Systems Change Management
Works Systems Measures and Measures Alignment.
We strongly encourage all presenters for the ISERC track to submit a full length paper for the conference proceedings. Applied Solutions presenters are required only to have a presentation. The abstract submission website is provided at the top of this document. The papers should contain results that are significant and have archival value to the industrial and systems engineering research community. Full papers have a ten-page limit and will undergo a double-blind peer review process. All accepted papers are indexed by ProQuest. IIE is currently working on uploading papers of previous years onto IIE website. ISERC presentations without a paper are acceptable, but will not be indexed in the conference proceedings.
The important deadlines for the conference are:
