Today marks an exciting milestone as we officially begin the structural steel er****on of the new 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐨́𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐨 𝐍𝐨𝐭𝐫𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐞𝐭𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐭 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐬, 𝐏𝐮𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐨 𝐑𝐢𝐜𝐨.

The first piece of steel is now in place for this new 𝟏𝟎𝟕' 𝐱 𝟔𝟏' 𝐩𝐫𝐞-𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠, which will provide a modern covered sports facility for students, faculty, and the entire Notre Dame community.

This project is especially meaningful to us because the building was designed in-house, detailed in-house, fabricated in our Cataño facility, and is now being installed by our own field crews, showcasing the full-service capabilities of Alonso & Carus from concept to completion.

As construction progresses, our team will continue transforming this vision into reality while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and craftsmanship that have defined Alonso & Carus for more than six decades.

Alonso & Carus Iron Works, Inc. is proud to announce the successful completion of the 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝟒𝟓,𝟎𝟎𝟎-𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐓𝐚𝐧𝐤 for the Félix Millán Baseball Park in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico.

This vertical welded steel tank was designed, fabricated, erected, and coated in accordance with the latest editions of 𝐀𝐖𝐖𝐀 𝐃𝟏𝟎𝟎-𝟐𝟏 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐅𝐏𝐀 𝟐𝟐 standards for fire protection water storage systems. The tank measures 𝟐𝟏’-𝟖” 𝐢𝐧 𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐲 𝟐𝟎’-𝟎” 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 and provides critical fire protection water reserve capacity for the facility.

The project included:
✔️ Complete steel tank fabrication
✔️ Interior and exterior protective coating systems per AWWA standards
✔️ OSHA-compliant access ladder and roof railing system
✔️ Anchor chair system designed for Puerto Rico’s demanding wind and seismic conditions

The tank was constructed utilizing our specialized 𝐡𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐣𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦, allowing the shell courses and roof structure to be assembled progressively from the top down, minimizing crane dependency and enhancing er****on safety and quality control in the field.

This project reflects Alonso & Carus’ continued commitment to delivering high-quality welded steel tanks engineered for Puerto Rico’s harsh environmental and seismic conditions.

☀️ The structural steel for the 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 (𝟑) 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐬 is currently being erected, forming part of a resilient microgrid system designed to enhance energy security, sustainability, and operational reliability for the facility. The scope includes the fabrication and installation of structural steel framing, columns, beams, bracing systems, connection assemblies, and support structures for the photovoltaic canopy systems.

🛡️ To ensure maximum durability in Puerto Rico’s aggressive coastal environment, all structural steel was 𝐇𝐨𝐭-𝐃𝐢𝐩 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐝 (𝐇𝐃𝐆) after fabrication and subsequently coated with an epoxy-based protective coating system for an additional layer of corrosion resistance and long-term performance.

We are proud to announce the start of another exciting structural steel project by Alonso & Carus Iron Works, Inc.!

Our team has officially begun the fabrication and er****on of the structural steel system for the new 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐱 𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐣𝐨 𝐑𝐞𝐛𝐞𝐤𝐚𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐠 in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico. This project includes the fabrication and installation of structural steel columns, beams, roof framing, and roof decking, all manufactured in accordance with AISC standards and quality-controlled under our AISC Certified Fabricator Program.

From shop fabrication to field er****on, every steel member represents the precision, quality, and commitment that define Alonso & Carus. We are excited to contribute to a project that will support sports, recreation, and the development of future athletes in Puerto Rico. ⚽🔥
