We’re excited to welcome Christopher Brett from Concordia University 🇨🇦

🧬 Talk title: Engineering EVs in S. cerevisiae for therapeutic applications using synthetic biology

🌍 Why attend?

This session will explore how synthetic biology is transforming extracellular vesicle (EV) engineering for therapeutic applications. Dr. Brett will discuss innovative strategies to genetically engineer EVs in S. cerevisiae, including semi-automated platforms for building designer EVs, scalable biomanufacturing approaches, and the development of next-generation EV-based biotechnologies for drug delivery and translational medicine.

🧑‍🔬 About the speaker

Dr. Christopher Brett is a Professor of Biology at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. He completed his BSc and MSc in Physiology at UBC and earned his PhD in Cellular and Molecular Medicine at Johns Hopkins Medical Institute. Following postdoctoral training in Biochemistry at the University of Washington, he joined Concordia as a Canada Research Chair. His group discovered an ESCRT-independent intralumenal vesicle biogenesis pathway that may generate EV precursors, leading to pioneering work in extracellular vesicle biology. His lab now leverages Concordia’s Genome Foundry and Bioprocessing Facility to engineer and biomanufacture EVs using _S. cerevisiae_ and other yeasts as chassis organisms.
