𝐍𝐄𝐖 𝐏𝐔𝐁𝐋𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍: Our article, “Self-activating Ti3AlC2 MAX phase-Ni/Ni-Al composite electrodes for hydrogen evolution in alkaline media”, has recently been published in the International Journal of Hydrogen Energy. In this work, Ti3AlC2 MAX phase, a well-known precursor for MXenes, was explored as an active component embedded in metallic Ni and Ni-Al electrodes for alkaline hydrogen evolution. The proposed electrode architectures behave as dynamic, self-activating systems, with their performance improving as the surface evolves under cathodic polarisation in strongly alkaline conditions. This research was led by Daniela Lopes, with an important contribution from our former MSc student Américo Cruz, based on his thesis work, as well as from other Lab SSI&EC members Parisa Amirkhizi and Andrei Kovalevsky. The work was carried out in collaboration with Sergii Sergiienko from the Centre of Excellence for Advanced Materials Application, Slovak Academy of Sciences, Slovak Republic.
