GESTO SUPPORTS HYDRO AND PUMPED STORAGE STUDIES IN AFRICA

June 02, 2022

Gesto’s experts will participate, as part of the EU-TAF, in the team that will develop an assessment on the contribution of potential Hydro Reservoirs and Pumped Storage power Plants in Africa. The ultimate goal of this project is to support the modelling of a Continental Power System - Transmission and Generation - Masterplan (CMP) across Africa.
For that, the team will identify technical and non-technical barriers for the integration of Hydro energy technologies in the African power system, as well as integration issues. In this sense, details on regulatory issues, market operation issues, financing issues and specific technical integration issues for hydro generation and storage will also be addressed to a necessary extent and possible ways of integrating them in the CMP scenarios in order to shape an outlook for the potential feasible hydro power production until 2050.
