EN | LLC Podcast – Episode 7 - Laura Esteves, Engineer – Teixeira Duarte
Welcome to the official LNEC Lisbon Conference 2026 podcast (21 and 22 October).
🎙️ In the seventh episode, Eng. Laura Esteves, Project Director at Teixeira Duarte, was our guest.
Can rehabilitating dams and hydropower plants be one of the most sustainable ways of responding to the challenges of the energy transition? “There is, generally speaking, no more sustainable project than one that already exists,” says Laura Esteves.
From construction as a foundation of civilisation to the modernisation of existing infrastructure, including structural and geotechnical diagnosis, risk management, laser scanning, digital modelling and sensor-equipped machinery, this conversation explores some of the challenges transforming civil engineering.
Teixeira Duarte’s international experience, particularly in Brazil, also shows how digitalisation and remote operation can improve efficiency and safety in high-criticality contexts. At a time marked by labour shortages and the need to generate more energy with less impact, making better use of existing hydropower assets is essential.
