Thinking about building a house in Portugal in 2026? Save this post.

One of the questions we are asked most often by our clients is:

“How much does it really cost to build in Portugal?”

We currently work with clients from the UK, Belgium, Germany, France, the United States and Portugal who are looking to build, renovate or invest with confidence.

The most successful projects are not necessarily the most expensive.

They are the ones that are properly planned from the beginning.

Typical construction costs currently range from:

• €1,500–€2,000/m² for standard construction
• €2,000–€2,800/m² for mid-to-high-end homes
• €2,800–€4,000+/m² for bespoke and luxury homes

However, construction cost is only part of the equation.

Before purchasing land or starting a project, a proper feasibility study can help identify realistic budgets, planning constraints, infrastructure requirements, project risks and potential cost overruns.

Save this before buying a rustic plot in Portugal.

One of the most common mistakes in Portuguese real estate is assuming that a rustic plot (terreno rústico) automatically has building rights.

The reality is that every rustic land purchase should start with a proper feasibility study before signing any contract.

Before buying, make sure you check:

✓ Land classification
✓ PDM (Plano Diretor Municipal)
✓ Building feasibility
✓ Infrastructure access
✓ Environmental restrictions
✓ Construction potential

A beautiful view does not guarantee planning approval.

This home was designed around one main idea: warmth with identity.

The inspiration behind this space mixes boho, tropical, natural contemporary and subtle Brazilian references — combining textures, earthy tones, organic materials and relaxed compositions to create a home that feels calm, personal and lived-in.

The challenge was bringing all of that into a typical Alentejo apartment, while respecting its original character and architecture.

Even in a rented home, interior design can completely transform the atmosphere through styling, lighting and intentional choices.

This is my own home. Decorated slowly, corner by corner.

Esta casa foi pensada com uma ideia principal: criar aconchego com identidade.

A inspiração mistura referências boho, tropical, contemporâneo natural e toques subtis de brasilidade — através de texturas, tons terrosos, materiais orgânicos e composições mais leves e descontraídas.

O desafio foi trazer tudo isso para um apartamento típico alentejano, respeitando a sua arquitetura e essência original.

Mesmo numa casa arrendada, o design de interiores consegue transformar completamente a atmosfera através da decoração, iluminação e escolhas intencionais.

Esta é a minha própria casa. Decorada aos poucos, detalhe por detalhe.

This month, two new design projects officially began development — one in Montemor-o-Novo and another in Ericeira.

Different landscapes, different lifestyles and completely different spatial challenges, approached through the same technical vision: clarity, functionality and integrated design thinking.

From a contemporary single-family LSF residence in Alentejo to a coastal apartment shaped through spatial reorganization and interior strategy, both projects are currently entering the conceptual development phase.

At Guedu Atelier, we approach each project through a balance between interior design, technical coordination and long-term functionality — creating spaces that are not only visually cohesive, but also thoughtfully structured from the very beginning.

Excited for what’s ahead.

One of the most rewarding parts of working in rehabilitation and interior transformation projects is hearing how people feel after finally seeing their space completed.

This Cascais duplex project was managed while the client was living in Germany, requiring continuous coordination, remote decision-making, cost management and full project follow-up from Portugal throughout the renovation process.

The goal was never just aesthetics. It was about creating a home that felt functional, warm, intentional and financially balanced — making strategic decisions to optimize costs without compromising the final result.

Good design is not only about creating beautiful spaces.
It is also about trust, communication, technical coordination and knowing how to guide clients through complex decisions, even from a distance.

Hearing this feedback at the end of the project means more than any photo ever could.

Uma das partes mais gratificantes de trabalhar com reabilitação e transformação de interiores é ouvir como as pessoas se sentem quando finalmente veem o seu espaço concluído.

Este projeto duplex em Cascais foi acompanhado enquanto a cliente vivia na Alemanha, exigindo coordenação contínua, gestão remota, controlo de custos e acompanhamento integral do projeto a partir de Portugal durante todo o processo de renovação.

O objetivo nunca foi apenas estética. Foi criar uma casa funcional, acolhedora, intencional e financeiramente equilibrada — tomando decisões estratégicas para otimizar custos sem comprometer o resultado final.

Um bom projeto não está apenas em criar espaços bonitos.
Está também em gerar confiança, comunicação, coordenação técnica e capacidade de orientar clientes em decisões complexas, mesmo à distância.

Guedu Atelier is leading the site supervision of the rehabilitation works of one of Costa da Caparica’s most iconic buildings — Hotel Praia do Sol.

A 2,145.20 sqm intervention that goes beyond renovation: it is about restoring structure, improving performance, and redefining the building for a new lifecycle. The client and project owner is the French group BANGEX, Empreendimentos Turísticos, Lda.

From façade works and rooftop conditions to interior restructuring and material application, every phase is being monitored with precision, ensuring alignment between design intent, cost control, and on-site ex*****on.

Guedu Atelier assume a direção de fiscalização da obra de reabilitação de um dos edifícios mais emblemáticos da Costa da Caparica — o Hotel Praia do Sol.

Uma intervenção com 2.145,20 m² que vai além da renovação: trata-se de recuperar a estrutura, melhorar o desempenho e preparar o edifício para um novo ciclo de vida. O cliente e dono do projeto é o grupo francês BANGEX, Empreendimentos Turísticos, Lda.

Desde a intervenção na fachada e cobertura até à reorganização interior e aplicação de materiais, cada fase é acompanhada com rigor, garantindo o alinhamento entre projeto, controlo de custos e execução em obra.
