NCREP recently carried out the Structural Survey and Investigation work for the O Leão de Arroios School, in Lisbon, for Lisboa SRU.

This work enabled a detailed technical characterisation of the existing structure, constituting an essential step for the development of the subsequent project phases.

Studies of this nature are fundamental to support informed technical decisions, reduce uncertainties, and guide structural intervention solutions that are safe, efficient, and tailored to the specific characteristics of the existing building stock.

A NCREP realizou, recentemente, o trabalho de Levantamento e Prospeção Estrutural da Escola Básica O Leão de Arroios, em Lisboa, para a Lisboa SRU.

Este trabalho permitiu uma caracterização técnica detalhada da estrutura existente, constituindo uma etapa essencial para o desenvolvimento das fases seguintes de projeto.

Investing in the future of Engineering is investing in the future of the country.

NCREP joins yet again the Order of Engineers of the Northern Region and the other partner entities in an initiative we believe can truly make a difference: the Master’s Merit Scholarships, aimed at 50 students of Master’s degrees in Engineering from public institutions in the Northern Region.

More than financial support, these scholarships are a recognition of talent and an incentive for excellence, promoting the appreciation and professional progression of those who are building the next generation of engineers.

NCREP was born in academia and has never lost that essence.

We believe that better intervention in the built heritage begins long before construction work: it begins with knowledge.

That is why we develop specialised training in structural rehabilitation and strengthening, with a regular presence at the Order of Engineers and the Order of Architects for engineers, architects and technicians who work with existing buildings, whether ordinary or historic.

Topics such as seismic vulnerability, rehabilitation of masonry, timber, reinforced concrete and seismic strengthening of historic buildings are part of our training programme.

Because knowledge only creates real impact when it is shared.

Intervening in a building classified as a National Monument demands far more than technical expertise - it requires respect for history, heritage sensitivity, and a truly multidisciplinary vision.

In the intervention project of the Seminário Maior de Coimbra, every decision was guided by three fundamental principles of heritage conservation:

• Reversibility: The applied solutions can be reversed without causing damage to the original building

• Compatibility: Traditional materials and techniques in harmony with the historical identity of the structure

• Minimal intrusiveness: A careful intervention that preserves authenticity without compromising functionality

Beyond the structural solutions, a continuous structural monitoring system was implemented to track the building’s behaviour over time — ensuring that its safeguarding extends well beyond the construction works.
