Vertic Single Nema 17 Test M1:
Here I fitted the first NEMA 17 motor and tested it using the L298 motor driver board. The high torque and slow movement is perfect for a RMM machine. Looking forward to fitting the next motor and getting the axis moving independently. I also added a shaft support for the bevel gears as sometimes these would skip. Might use a bearing for the next gen. Here you can see me holding the shift for the inner core to although them to move together (1 to 1 ratio). However, the variable speed of each motor will define the spin ratio.

Bit of a secret project. For my A-Level D&T, I have been working with teachers, makers and artists to develop a Rotary Moulding Machine. Here is the first quick prototype to see how my clients react to this industrial process brought down to DIY hobbyist size. I am currently waiting for 2 servo motors so I can begin installing the motor-driven aspects and intuitive display. However, the core mechanics have been played with, as shown. I created a smaller design here to test out the features quickly and play around with various configurations.
For those familiar with casting, rotary moulding or are a keen maker who would be interested in such a machine - DM me! I would love to get your input.

Ill keep you updated.

Whats your prototyping technique? Yup, thats the messy origins of the 8BitCADE XL...insane right? But we all have to start somewhere and I chose the breadboard! It allowed me to test all of the electronics and interchange parts to see what worked best and build it up accordingly.
-
I do know some people use perf board - for those that are not sure what that is, it's like a PCB board but with an evenly laid out array of THC (Through Hole Components) holes that allow you to solder components in place. For me...that was a little too permanent! I chose to go with a breadboard because it meant I could get all of the components laid out in a birds-eye view and get a full understanding of the console - helping me decide where things should go on the PCB.
-
With that said, I do wish I experimented a little more with perf board. Something I might do in the future. How else do you guys plan your ciruits? Any tips?

Prototype 2 of PiFi - a raspberry pi powered speaker using volumio. The reason its the two colours is because I ran out of material mid print and had to convert to black - it looks interesting to say the least...🤣🤷‍♂️ ill keep you up to date with the progress of this project. Fingers crossed I can print it in white! What do you guys think? Leave a comment below!

It is a lengthy print, coming in at a day and a half for the whole print (cover and body included).
