Whether it’s the Bundesliga, the NBA or the NFL: a facial injury doesn’t have to spell the end – provided the mask fits perfectly. When it comes to bespoke carbon fibre masks for elite sport, Malzkorn is the right partner.
The process of creating the finished mask begins with a manual facial impression, which is then cast into a mould. The carbon fibre is moulded over this using a vacuum-assisted process. At the end of this process, which takes around 16 hours, the side holes are drilled into the mask. However, when machining these materials, chips and burrs can form around the drill holes, which previously had to be laboriously ground down and countersunk. In the worst-case scenario, the entire process had to start all over again.
But that’s where Gühring comes in: with the StepPower drill, sales representative Marcel Horn presents a solution from Gühring that guarantees burr-free holes when drilling by hand. The major advantage for Malzkorn: the StepPower completely eliminates the need for reworking, resulting in enormous time savings.
