Dear SPE Romanian Section Members,

Would you like to volunteer?

We are excited to announce that the 2026-2027 Board positions are now open for applications. We invite everyone to apply and help shaping the future of the SPE Romanian Section.

With a membership of 126 professionals and 360 students, the SPE Romanian Section relies on your support to sustain its activities and contribute to professional growth through various programs and events. Our achievements thus far have been made possible by the dedication of our volunteer members.

Now is your chance to contribute to the development of the SPE Romanian Section's strategy for the upcoming years.

Application Deadline: 16th of June, 2026

Note: Eligibility of all applicants will be reviewed by the SPE Romanian Section Board (min. condition for Core/Board officers will be 3 years as SPE Member and at least 1 year as officer in the section).

Dedicated Senior geoscientist with more than 17 years’ experience in oil and gas industry as log analysist mainly focused on cased hole log processing and interpretation like cased hole formation evaluation, casing inspection, cement bond evaluation and production logging using different technologies and interpretation approaches. As Petrophysicist another focus was to be able to integrate all the solutions for clients worldwide needs and perform a close contact with them along with basic petrophysical analysis for conventional and unconventional reservoirs.

Dear SPE Romanian Section Members,

Please be invited to "Linking Contract Management to Operations Performance in Upstream Projects", hosted by Ioana Popescu - Senior Expert Contract Manager/ Strategic Contract Mgmt. – Contract Excellence OMV Petrom.

BIO:

Ioana Popescu is a chemical engineer with over a decade of upstream experience. Since 2021 she is specializing in contract management for drilling and associated services, with a strong focus on contract performance, risk management, and the interface between engineering decisions and commercial outcomes.

She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Bucharest and a master’s degree in Petro-chemistry from the University of Oil and Gas Ploiești.

Joined OMV Petrom in 2013 and built a career as drilling fluids engineer and since 2018, she has been involved in R&D projects and has delivered multiple drilling fluids application trainings within OMV Petrom.

An active SPE member for more than ten years, Ioana has served on the SPE Romania Board as Secretary and as Section Chairperson (2021–2023).

Ioana firmly upholds the notion that maintaining a perpetual sense of curiosity and commitment to ongoing learning are pivotal in attaining long-term success in any professional pursuit.

Abstract:

Upstream projects are becoming increasingly complex, whether in HPHT wells, deepwater developments, unconventional resources, or geothermal operations, and this complexity places greater pressure on both technical ex*****on and commercial outcomes.

Cost overruns, non-productive time, and disputes often arise at the point where engineering decisions intersect with contract terms, even though these links are not always obvious in day-to-day operations.

This presentation aims to highlight why the link between engineering and contract management matters and sets the foundation for better alignment between technical decisions and upstream project success.
