Alive Capital joined the conversation at the Green PPA Summit, on the panel “From PPA to Energy Optimisation: Financing, BESS and EMS”. The discussion focused on the topics at the core of our work: financing renewable and storage projects, technical and commercial optimisation, aggregating generation and consumption, and the development of data centres.

George Constantin, Head of Technology Strategy, Innovation & Performance at Alive Capital, explained why the commercial optimisation of batteries is becoming decisive in an increasingly volatile market.

Together with Bulgaria, Romania is now going through a phase of accelerated storage growth. BESS capacity has risen from almost zero in 2021 to over 1 GW today, around 13% of peak demand, and spreads remain attractive.

The experience of more mature markets shows, however, that this window won’t stay open forever. As more players enter, spreads compress, and what separates a profitable battery from a mediocre one is the quality of its optimisation.

That’s where Alive Capital comes in. Together with our partners at enspired, we support asset owners throughout the battery’s lifecycle, from operating strategy to market trading, so they can capture its full revenue potential.

Because in a maturing market, having a battery isn’t enough. What matters is how well you operate it.

At 𝗚𝗘𝗧 𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗩𝗘 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 | 𝗕𝗘𝗦𝗦, we brought together investors, public authorities, technology partners and energy professionals around one practical question: what does it take to build storage projects that deliver for both the grid and the investor?

On October 12, we gathered at the Carol I Central University Library in Bucharest. Together, we examined what makes a storage project viable: financing, grid connection, technology and commercial optimisation.

𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆. 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺.

At 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝗧𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆, Giacomo Billi shared a clear message on the role of people, technology and investment in shaping the future of energy.

People develop and apply the technologies that enable flexibility. Digitalisation helps us manage these resources more effectively, using real-time data to improve operational decisions and energy management.

Investment must support the whole system: people, new technologies, stronger grids and growing generation capacity.

Alive Capital is putting this approach into practice. This year, we established a Research & Development Department to support the development of new technologies. We have also created a People and Cultural Development Department, dedicated to our colleagues’ personal and professional growth.

Investing in capacity and investing in people must go hand in hand.

In recent months, our team has grown significantly. So have our projects, responsibilities and the pace at which we make decisions and deliver results.

Growth brings opportunities, but also a challenge: as teams become larger and responsibilities more defined, it becomes easier to know one another by role rather than as people.

Our time together in Greece gave us the opportunity to change that. For a few days, we left functions and deadlines in the background, shared ideas and different perspectives, and got to know the people behind the roles.

In response to the current pressure on the Romanian power system, Alive Capital has asked its clients and partners to voluntarily reduce electricity consumption between 19:00 and 23:00, where operationally possible, until 31 August 2026.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗱.

Some of our clients have reviewed their consumption patterns and introduced practical measures adapted to their operations.

Every company is different. Not every activity can or should be shifted. But when many consumers make small adjustments at the same time, the combined effect can help reduce pressure on the power system during the evening peak.

This is not about disrupting operations, compromising safety or affecting critical processes. It is about understanding how and when we use electricity and asking a simple question:

This role means real-time operational control of renewable energy power plants and battery energy storage systems (BESS) across Alive Capital's portfolio.

What the job actually looks like:
• Monitoring production and technical parameters via SCADA, around the clock.
• Coordinating with the national transmission and distribution operators, per grid code requirements.
• Analyzing alarms, managing incidents, and tracking production schedules.
• Driving energy optimization and commercial performance across a sizeable renewable energy portfolio.
