IOL 2026 is just a few days away and we are SO excited to welcome you all in beautiful Romania!
Let’s learn a few interesting facts, get to know some cities and dishes, and solve a little linguistics problem at the end! 😉

✨ The INTERNATIONAL JURY of IOL 2026 ✨

The academic nucleus of IOL is the Problem Committee (PC), a permanent body composed of researchers, teachers and former participants, all experienced solvers, testers and composers of the genre of self-sufficient linguistics problems. The PC works throughout the whole year on the multilingual composition of the problems, in order to guarantee that all language versions of the problems are functionally equal.

During the event, the academic work (distributing the problems, overseeing the exams, marking the papers, presenting solutions, giving awards) is carried out by an International Jury, composed of Jurors drawn from the PC. The Jury’s academic work is led by the Jury Chair, while the Jury Coordinator ensures the Jury’s welfare and smooth operation.

⚡️ The LOCAL ORGANIZING COMMITTEE of IOL 2026 ⚡️

The IOL is an event organized by many hands on different fronts. Professors, teachers, former participants and enthusiasts from different countries gather in different organizing bodies, such as the Board, the International Organizing Committee, the Problem Committee and the Jury.

In addition, each year's edition is organized by a Local Organizing Committee (LOC). ✨

The LOC is responsible for planning and executing all on-site aspects of the event — logistics such as venues, accommodation, transportation, and technical infrastructure, as well as supporting the academic program. They also ensure participants’ safety and well-being, manage volunteers, and represent the host country’s culture and hospitality, helping to create a smooth, fair, and memorable IOL experience for all participants.

🥁 Introducing… the VOLUNTEERS of IOL 2026!

The volunteers play an integral part in making the International Linguistics Olympiad a success. They help with various tasks before the IOL and ensure everything runs smoothly during the week of the Olympiad. 💪

This year’s volunteers’ selection was more competitive than ever - we received 156 applications from 39 countries. After two rounds and lots of deliberations, we comprised a team of 20 wonderful volunteers who are so excited to help make IOL 2026 happen! 🥳
