The European Commission and the European Investment Bank have announced a new โฌ๐.๐ ๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ข๐จ๐ง package to support cleaner energy systems across 11 EU countries.
Romania receives the highest allocation in this round.
Although battery storage is one of the headline areas, the funding package for Romania is broader. It includes support for storage, renewable energy through CfDs, renewable self-consumption with integrated storage for public entities, energy efficiency, electrified transport and smart metering.
For Romania, the stand-alone battery storage component is especially relevant.
A dedicated budget of around โฌ๐๐๐ ๐ฆ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ข๐จ๐ง is expected for this measure, and the applicant guide has already been published for public consultation by the Romanian Ministry of Energy. This means the final guide and financing session could be approaching.
If the process continues on this track, Romania could see this BESS financing mechanism implemented by the end of the summer.
