Safety procedures are most effective when they are understood and practised.

Today, colleagues at ICEPRONAV Engineering SRL took part in a practical fire safety exercise led by our HSSE Expert, Iulia Vasile.

The exercise gave colleagues the opportunity to practise the correct use of fire extinguishers and how to respond safely to an incipient fire.

Practical exercises like this help turn procedures into effective responses. They improve preparedness and reinforce our shared responsibility for a safe, professional working environment. Maintaining that environment supports the people behind the ship and offshore design work we deliver for customers around the world.

Jason is at the event connecting with customers and industry contacts from across the international maritime sector.

As part of our 60th anniversary alumni series, we are highlighting former ICEPRONAV Engineering SRL colleagues who have gone on to successful careers across the international marine industry.

Florin Vicu Răscanu joined ICEPRONAV in 1985 and spent more than twenty years developing his expertise in ship design, engineering and project management.

In 2006, Florin became Managing Director of Marine Engineering SRL in Galați. Under his leadership, the company has grown from around 20 engineers to approximately 220 employees, supporting commercial, luxury yacht and naval shipbuilding projects. He also serves as Vice President of ANCONAV, the Romanian Shipbuilding Association.

Three first-year master's students in Naval Architecture have completed a five-week internship at ICEPRONAV Engineering SRL.

During their internship, the students had the opportunity to explore the activities of our Initial Design Department and gain practical experience in a professional ship design environment, with guidance from experienced mentors.

Supporting future naval architects through practical experience provides an opportunity to share knowledge while helping students connect their academic studies with the professional environment.

We wish all three students every success as they continue their studies and future careers.

This summer, Icepronav Engineering SRL is welcoming students to its Summer Internship 2026 programme.

Throughout the three-week programme, students from the Faculty of Naval Architecture and the Faculty of Automation, Computers, Electrical and Electronics Engineering are working alongside our engineers and mentors, gaining practical experience across a range of engineering disciplines while applying the knowledge gained during their university studies.

Last month, Chairman and CEO Steinar Draegebo represented ICE Marine Design at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) 2026 in Houston, Texas.

OTC remains one of the offshore energy sector's leading international events, bringing together operators, contractors, technology providers and engineering specialists from around the world.

Having been closely involved with the design of approximately 50 offshore floater projects, including FPSOs, FSOs, FSRUs and FLNGs, the offshore energy market remains of major importance to ICE.

Valentin Gheoca joined ICEPRONAV in 2007 as a Junior Outfitting Engineer, building experience across offshore, naval and commercial ship design projects before progressing through project management and estimating roles.

Today, as Director, Functional Engineering at Vancouver Shipyards in Canada, he leads a team of around 200 engineers working on major ship design programmes, including Polar and Multi-Purpose Icebreaker projects.

Icedesign - An ICEPRONAV Alumnus with Success in Canada

The experience, knowledge and technical capability of our employees remain central to ICEPRONAV Engineering SRL’s long-term success.

Marian Maricel Mocanu, Technical Consultant and former Project Chief Engineer, joined ICEPRONAV in 1972 after graduating from the Polytechnic Institute of Galați. During a career spanning more than four decades within the Machinery and Piping Department, he contributed to major commercial and naval projects, later serving as Team Leader, Department Manager and Project Chief Engineer.

Among the projects he remembers most strongly is the Royal Navy of Oman ocean patrol vessel programme, commissioned in 2015, where he served as Project Chief Engineer. He continues to emphasise the importance of teamwork and supporting younger engineers throughout project delivery.

Reflecting on his career, he notes: “Everything I did, I did with pleasure, because I loved ships and the sense of camaraderie.”

Although officially retired since 2014, he continues to support ICEPRONAV through technical consultancy work and intern training activities, helping transfer engineering knowledge and practical experience to the next generation of specialists.
