upTIM The Solar Decathlon is a competition created in 2001 by the U.S. The first edition was held in 2002 at National Mall in Washington DC.

The first European edition was held in Madrid, Spain in 2010.This was a success that created the grounds for new horizons. The city of Madrid won the organization of SDE 2012 and for the next edition, 2014, France was chosen to host the event.
