🦐 Artemia as a Starter Live Feed for Sturgeon 🐟

Artemia is one of the most effective starter live feeds not only for shrimp farming but also for sturgeon culture, thanks to its high nutritional value, good digestibility, and ability to stimulate the natural feeding behavior of larvae.

During the first weeks of life, sturgeon larvae have an underdeveloped digestive system, making live Artemia nauplii an optimal source of nutrition.

Feeding with Artemia nauplii promotes high digestibility — over 90% — and naturally stimulates feeding behavior.

🔹 Larvae after yolk sac absorption

✔️ Getting ready for new harvest season

Summer in Siberia this year pleases us with hot sunny weather. Arsal team is already fully prepared and will start to collect new harvest on our lakes very soon.

🦐 Feeding shrimp larvae with Artemia is one of the key stages of hatchery rearing. High-quality Artemia nauplii ensure high survival rates, rapid growth, and successful transition to dry feed.

Artemia is typically fed starting at the Mysis I stage.
However, Monodon shrimp often consume more Artemia due to the larger size of the larvae.

It is recommended to feed Artemia nauplii 4-8 times per day to ensure their constant presence in the water. This allows:

✅ to increase feed capture;
✅ to reduce cannibalism;
✅ to reduce stress in the larvae;
✅ to ensure uniform growth and increased survival rates.

Practical recommendations:

Use only freshly hatched nauplii, as they contain the maximum yolk sac reserve and have the highest nutritional value.

Before feeding, rinse the nauplii thoroughly with clean seawater to remove any shell residue and salts.

Control feeding density: too much Artemia degrades water quality, while too little reduces growth and survival.

As the postlarvae develop, gradually increase the proportion of specialized dry starter feeds, maintaining Artemia as a supplementary food source until the complete transition to artificial diets.

When using our Siberian Artemia cysts, all of our partners easily achieve high survival rates (often over 80-90% with optimal hatchery management), rapid growth, and uniform postlarvae ready for further rearing.
