WHAT ARE QUARTERNIONS?

QUARTERNIONS are methods of representing the 3D motion of objects on a 4D hypersphere. They're easier to implement than they are harder to understand, unlike Euler angles which are a matrix of transformations in succession. Every form of rotation can be represented by three or less rotations around three or less axis. The problem with Euler's transformation or the cosine matrix is that they experience a phenomenon known as the gimbal lock, where one axis is forced to follow the path of another axis during rotation. QUARTERNIONS avoid this problem, since we defined every form of rotation ourselves using imaginary directional units and a scalar.

Do you like working with matrices when calculating flight dynamics, or you use the system of equations directly. Matrices are more efficient though as they're easily computed and express transformations of forces and/or velocities for any change in direction in a coordinate system.

Many Argue that the shape of an aircraft's wing lets air move faster at the top than at the bottom, and from this Bernoulli's equation, since the combined effect of pressure and velocity is constant, an increase in velocity will result in a decrease in pressure to maintain the constancy. The difference in pressure between the upper and lower part of the airfoil will thus result in a negative pressure gradient relative to the earth, and since objects tend to move towards areas of lower pressure, the aircraft generate lifts. The problem now is, even when a completely flat airfoil is used, just like those in simple airplanes, lift is still generated. Where is our fallacy, and what do we not understand about Aerodynamics?
