Ball mill liner replacement is a major maintenance activity that requires careful planning, proper tools, and strict safety procedures. The liners protect the mill shell from wear and also help optimize the grinding action inside the mill.

πŸ”§ Typical Liner Replacement Process:

1️⃣ Mill Shutdown & Isolation
The mill is completely stopped, isolated, locked out and made safe before any work begins.

2️⃣ Mill Inspection & Preparation
The internal condition of the mill is inspected. Old grinding media and loose material are removed as required.

3️⃣ Shell Protection
A suitable protection layer may be placed inside the mill to protect the shell and facilitate safe movement of liners during replacement.

4️⃣ Removal of Old Liners
Old liners are loosened and removed using approved tools and lifting arrangements. Special attention is required because liners can be extremely heavy.

5️⃣ Inspection Before Installation
The mill shell, liner bolts, bolt holes, lifter bars, diaphragm and other internal components are inspected for damage or abnormal wear.

6️⃣ Installation of New Liners

Glass and mild steel have very different properties, especially in terms of melting/softening temperature, thermal expansion and bonding behavior.
