Hot-dip galvanizing is a powerful way to protect steel from corrosion.
What determines the lifespan of a hot-dip galvanized product is the thickness of the zinc layer. This trailer has a steel structure made of batch-galvanized steel, while the protection over the wheel arches consists of continuous galvanized thin sheet steel with a significantly lower coating thickness, that now has been consumed. Different types of zinc layers are suitable for different products, but this is a very clear example of the influence of layer thickness on the sustainability of a galvanized product. If a long maintenance free lifetime is desired, batch galvanizing is the right choice!

EGGA, the European General Galvanizers Association, celebrated its 70th anniversary in connection with the association’s committee meetings in Nice 4-6 November. Interesting meeting days and a really nice dinner highlighted the benefits of us all working together. The hot-dip galvanizing industry has taken several important steps forward to reduce its carbon footprint and make hot-dip galvanized steel to an even more environmentally friendly product, adapted for the circular economy.
