Nordic Galvanizers Annual and Member meeting 2026
Nordic Galvanizers conference was this year held in beautiful Larvik, at the beachside Quality Hotel Grand. The conference had gathered 74 participants and offered a varied program. The first of the speakers was Murray Cook from EGGA, who informed about the new EPD for hot-dip galvanized steel. Other interesting presentations was about establishment and monitoring the climate accounts in a galvanizing plant, the development on the zinc market, how the directive CBAM will influence on the galvanizing industry in Europe, steel reactivity when galvanizing in baths with different additions, handling of waste generated in the hot-dip galvanizing process and information about the locally rooted company EverZinc, a global leader in the production of zinc chemicals. The meeting also included a nice dinner and two interesting works visit. The first was to PCS Pulverlakk, which specializes in professional and environmentally friendly powder coating for a wide range of products and steel structures, and the other to DOT Duozink, a galvanizer included in the large DOT group.

Different types of zinc coatings for different purposes…
Hot-dip galvanizing is a powerful way to protect steel from corrosion.
What determines the lifespan of a hot-dip galvanized product is the thickness of the zinc layer. This trailer has a steel structure made of batch-galvanized steel, while the protection over the wheel arches consists of continuous galvanized thin sheet steel with a significantly lower coating thickness, that now has been consumed. Different types of zinc layers are suitable for different products, but this is a very clear example of the influence of layer thickness on the sustainability of a galvanized product. If a long maintenance free lifetime is desired, batch galvanizing is the right choice!

EGGA, the European General Galvanizers Association, celebrated its 70th anniversary in connection with the association’s committee meetings in Nice 4-6 November. Interesting meeting days and a really nice dinner highlighted the benefits of us all working together. The hot-dip galvanizing industry has taken several important steps forward to reduce its carbon footprint and make hot-dip galvanized steel to an even more environmentally friendly product, adapted for the circular economy.

EGGA Assembly at the spectacular Aviva Stadium in Dublin last week was a really good and rewarding conference! The presentations covered a number of issues that are highly relevant to our industry, like “Corrosion protection in the renewable energy sector”, “New insights in galvanizing of thermally cut steel plates”, “Understanding additive manufacturing of steel components and future implications for galvanizing” and “Communicating sustainability, circularity and durability” just to name a few. Nice socializing with colleagues, interesting suppliers at the fair and a really good plant visit at the galvanizing company Galco made the week perfect!

Nordic Galvanizers held its conference and annual meeting at Hotel Tylösand in Sweden on May 12-13 and the number of participants was this year the highest ever. The presentations covered everything from how to build a state-of-the-art new galvanizing plant, how the industry works to follow and influence government decisions at the EU level, next-generation centrifugation lines, how to best care for your galvanizing kettle and information about the circular economy when it comes to by-products from the galvanizing processes. Monday evening offered a pleasant mingle and dinner, and on Tuesday there were factory visits to the hot-dip galvanizing company DOT and the construction company EAB. Two intense days of interesting presentations, discussions and networking, set in a fantastic environment that offered both a spa, exclusive Ferrari cars and a sensational nature experience. Many thanks to all participants, speakers and sponsors.
