When Fiedler & Lundgren replaced open screw conveyors and manual filling with Piab’s automated vacuum conveying solution, both productivity and the working environment changed fundamentally.

In the article, Technical Support Specialist Mazlam Orhan explains how the upgrade has helped them to:

▪️𝗥𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸𝘀: Operators no longer climb ~3 m ladders to load material, and enclosed pipes minimize exposure to harmful dust.

▪️𝗖𝘂𝘁 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲: Cleaning that used to take around half a shift now takes about 20–30 minutes with simple foam‑rubber cleaners through the pipeline.

▪️𝗟𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲: Food‑grade equipment means most spilled product can be safely put back into production instead of being discarded.

▪️𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱: What started with a single pump has grown to around 50–60 pumps and cyclones as volumes increased – without rebuilding from scratch.

Today, the Malmö snus plant is seen as a pioneer within the BAT Group for safe, efficient ni****ne pouch production.

For oral pouch manufacturers, conveying is about much more than moving product from A to B. It affects uptime, cleaning time, labor intensity, waste – and ultimately whether your production setup can scale with demand.

Our new insight article walks through 𝟲 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 to consider before you invest in new material handling equipment, including:
▪️How much production time you lose to cleaning and flavor changeovers
▪️ How stable your material flow really is, given humidity and batch variations
▪️How dependent you are on manual lifting, refilling and troubleshooting
▪️How quickly you can recover from disruptions and get back to stable output
▪️Whether hygiene is engineered into the system, or reliant on procedures
▪️How well your current setup supports your growth plans over the next 12–24 months

You’ll also see why more industry frontrunners are moving from mechanical conveying to 𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱, 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝘂𝘂𝗺 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 tailored to oral pouch production – and what that has meant in practice for Fiedler & Lundgren’s ni****ne pouch lines.

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 “𝗵𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗻” 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘁.

Filters can make or break the performance of your vacuum conveyor – but they’re often monitored too late, when capacity is already down or an emergency stop is unavoidable.

Piab’s new Filter Monitoring option for piFLOW®p and piFLOW®t with ECU15 changes that. The system:
👉 Learns a clean‑filter baseline during start‑up
👉 Tracks differential pressure over time
👉Uses a simple black/green/orange/red status on the ECU15 HMI so operators know when to clean or change filters

Up to eight filter presets can be managed in one ECU15, enabling dedicated settings per material, recipe or line – ideal for demanding, multi‑material production.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝘀 “𝗵𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗻”?

In many oral pouch plants, it’s not the big breakdowns that hurt the most – it’s the everyday inefficiencies that quietly eat into OEE: slow cleaning between flavor changes, manual material handling, dust-related stoppages, long waits for service, or a line that suddenly struggles when powder behavior changes from one batch to the next.

Production and operations teams we support in ni****ne, caffeine, vitamin and other functional pouch lines are all asking similar questions:
- How do we cut changeover time without compromising HSEQ?
- How do we reduce dust exposure and cross‑contamination risk between flavors and strengths?
- How do we move away from manual handling and still keep the line flexible and scalable?

Our latest article breaks down five of the most common root causes of downtime in oral pouch production – and why upgrading from purely mechanical setups and manual handling to modern conveying concepts can be a powerful lever for uptime, ergonomics and quality.
